The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through the Flight and Space (FS) unit. Students become engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space. They solve real-world aviation and space challenges and plan a mission to Mars.

Design and Modeling (DM) provides students opportunities to apply the design process to creatively solve problems. Students are introduced to the unit problem in the first activity and are asked to make connections to the problem throughout the lessons in the unit. Students learn and utilize methods for communicating design ideas through sketches, solid models, and mathematical models. Students will understand how models can be simulated to represent an authentic situation and generate data for further analysis and observations. Students work in teams to identify design requirements, research the topic, and engage stakeholders. Teams design a toy or game for a child with cerebral palsy, fabricate and test it, and make necessary modifications to optimize the design solution.

Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.

This unit will expose students to computer science by computationally analyzing and developing solutions to authentic problems through mobile app development, and will convey the positive impact of the application of computer science to other disciplines and to society.  Students will customize their experience by choosing a problem that interests them from the areas of health, environment, emergency preparedness, education, community service, and school culture. Because problems in the real world involve more than one discipline, the unit will introduce students to biomedical science concepts as they work on solutions for the specific problems they choose to tackle.

Students will have the opportunity to create works of art at the beginner level of Slab Construction in Clay, make ceramic tiles, animal sculptures,  receive intensive Drawing instruction, experiment with Mixed Media art, and investigate acrylic painting and basic color theory.

Students will have the opportunity to create works of art at the intermediate level of Slab Construction and Hand building in Clay, study Color Theory through Painting, as well as explore monotype printmaking, and Scratchboard.

Students will learn media specific vocabulary and techniques, and are provided an opportunity to explore and compose work based upon realist/Abstract Sculpture in clay or cardboard, Relief Carving and Block Printmaking, as well as various forms of Painting, Pen & Ink, Still Life, and Collage, still life painting, and portraiture.

Students will engage with Advanced sculptural construction in Clay, realistic Self Portraiture in Acrylic paint, advanced color theory, mural painting, Digital Photography and Digital Editing, Silk Screening and collage work.

Students continue learning and refining the concepts and skills taught in Beginning Band.  An emphasis is placed on repertoire and reading skills.  The students present a Winter and Spring Concert.

Students in the older grades are introduced to more advanced topics in ensemble performance by expanding upon previously learned skills and concepts.  The repertoire represents different genres, periods and cultures.  Our goal, through the use of a wide variety of music, is to assist the development of aesthetic judgment, independence and a greater musical understanding in students.  Attendance is required for ALL 4 Concerts. These may include the following: Veterans Day Ceremony, MICCA Festival, Winter & Spring Concerts. 

Chorus students meet daily and explore choral music from a wide variety of cultures and time periods through study and performance.  The core curriculum emphasizes the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history.
