Second Grade is a wonderful journey of discovery and learning. I look forward to a collaborative partnership in your child’s best interests. Language Arts
Our Language Arts curriculum is primarily made up of the activities and lessons provided by Fountasand Pinnell’s Continuum of Literacy Learning and Lucy Calkins Writing Program, supplemented with activities and lessons from Fountas and Pinnell Guiding Readers and Writers resource materials. Along with the reading program, each child participates in a reading group that is based on their instructional reading level. Each reading group works on specific targeted skills based on need. The students are also given opportunities to use various materials in the Reading Room as wells as books in our classroom library.
Math
The Mathematics curriculum is the Math Expressions Program. It provides children with a variety of activities to explore mathematical concepts in a hands-on way and allows children to develop flexible thinking about numbers and problem solving techniques.
Science & Social Studies

Social Skills
Our Second Step Program helps children find non-violent ways to solve various problems that may arise in their day to day lives. Students learn about ways to talk out problems, and work together to come up with fair solutions.
Homework
Second graders are given homework Monday-Thursday nights. Students are responsible for reading each night for 15 minutes and recording what they have read on their weekly reading logs. Students are also given spelling and math homework that needs to be completed and returned the next day.
If there is a special circumstance that causes your child to be unable to return their homework on time please send me a note and let me know.
